Effect of heptanol on junctional
conductance measured in isolated ventricular myocyte cell pairs.
Figure 1
shows the effects of the uncoupling agent heptanol on junctional
current amplitude. A repetitive step hyperpolarisation to -50
mV (0.2 Hz) is used to monitor the stability of the amplitude of IJ.
After 2 minutes control recording the perfusate is switched to one
containing heptanol (as denoted by the black bar).
Heptanol
which is a known uncoupler of cardiac gap junctions causes an
immediate and complete block of IJ amplitude. On
wash off of heptanol; there was complete recovery of IJ.
